VISION:
To become leader in the promotion of health through provision of quality education and diagnostic services in the veterinary field.

MISSION:
To offer quality education and services in the area of pathology in support of degree programs offered by Sokoine university of Agriculture and to other stakeholders in the animal industry

TEACHING:
The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate instruction to veterinary and non-veterinary students in the subjects of Veterinary Pathology, Instrumentation and Forensic Pathology. The department has a staff strength of nine. Over half of these have extensive experience, blending with fairly new staff who bring in new energy.

RESEARCH & OUTREACH:
As part of outreach we conduct pathologic investigations for diagnostic and forensic purpose. This makes the largest part of our daily activities outside teaching. We receive samples from all over Tanzania, including from wildlife. Our staff do research in their respective areas of specialisations while also interacting with staff from outside the department as part of multidisciplinary research agenda.

CONSULTANCY:
The department offers services in Diagnostic Pathology. Clients include Farmers and Custodians of Wildlife such as National Parks, Private citizens and various other institutions. Part of these inestigations are for Forensic purpose. Teaching material preparation for Pathology & Anatomy also form an important area. These include physical material and digital images for teaching institutions. The department also offers tailor-made short courses for a wide range of clientelle, including those that deal with environment issues.
