SUA student wins MSD Animal Health/WVA Veterinary Student Scholarship Program for the year 2018

Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Student Eliya Peter Sangoma, from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) has won the MSD Animal Health/WVA Veterinary Student Scholarship Program for the year 2018.

Eliya who is the third year student from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at SUA was one of the 41 veterinary students out of 240 from 30 countries who won a scholarship of 5,000 US Dollar from MSD Animal Health and World Veterinary Association.

Speaking with excitement after receiving the award, Eliya said the scholarship will assist him during his studies at SUA especially during his research work.

“I’m so excited, it was a competitive scholarship but am glad I made it,  I was able to get 5,000 USD and certificate, this is honour to me, my teachers, College  and my University SUA” said Eliya.

He added that the aim of the scholarship is to recognize the efforts of veterinary students and their academic achievements and also to help them progress even further in their Veterinary careers.

Speaking during the 35th world veterinary Congress in San Jose Costa Rica, President of World Veterinary Association Dr. Johnson Chiang said Veterinary students are the future of veterinary profession.

“By investing and promoting excellent students, the WVA and MSD animal health, are promoting and developing farther the veterinary profession to ensure that human, animals and environment  prosper together”  Said WVA President  Dr. Chiang.

The MSD Animal Health and WVA Veterinary Student Scholarship Program is designed to help students to continue their studies by offering direct financial support aiding the selected students with their scholastic development. 
The review of applications considered financial need, academic achievement, engagement of the students with their future career path, leadership potential, and letters of support from their professors and deans.
